3D-Scan of spare parts

The field of vehicle spare parts is diverse and the areas of application are broad. Whether cars, motorbikes, boats or agricultural machinery, spare parts are generally needed. The older the vehicle, the more difficult it is to find adequate replacements should a part be defective.

One possibility is the reconstruction by means of 3D scanning and digitalisation of the original part. An original part is scanned with an optical system and a point cloud of the original spare part is created.

After capturing the data set of the original part, a digital 3D model of the spare part is created using a CAD system. The original part is reproduced 1:1.

Defects, cracks or breaks can be easily repaired in the CAD system to ensure the function of the new part. As soon as the digital 3D model is completed, the designer checks the data and compares the data set with the original part by means of individual measuring points.

In the next step, an efficient manufacturing process for the spare part is selected to initiate the manufacturing process of the desired quantity of the spare part.

In the following, a spare part for a Mercedes Benz W113 Pagoda is shown, which was digitised and reproduced by means of 3D printing.

After the production of the spare part by means of 3D printing, the part can be installed on the vehicle or the associated machine at the place of use and put into operation. We can already offer spare part reconstructions for individual pieces or small series.
